loss of pigment from the surface, blanching and mold have given the painting a splotchy appearance.

painting was mounted onto a masonite secondary support with a resin/ paste adhesive, heavily filled and overpainted. surface varnish was heavy and discolored. background colors looked muddy and incongruent to the subject and execution of the subject.

Painting prior to conservation. Old surface varnish has discolored and the canvas support has weakened causing the paint film and ground to crack and flake.

Old discolored surface varnish has been removed. painting has been lined, filled, inpainted and varnished.
